Human Rights & Politics: Friends or Foes!

Newly elected president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari is guest of president Obama in Washington DC (July 19 - 22) where an array of meetings and discussions are expected to be had. President Buhari who took over amidst plunging oil prices, charges of corruption against past administrations and an insurgency in the North East of the country by the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram - this is one of the critical challenges facing Nigeria’s new administration. More than 8,000 civilians have been killed since 2010, and  over 600 people have died since president Buhari’s inauguration on May 29 of this year.
